Spent the last two weeks laid off. The first was a voluntary, the second was mandatory. Trying to find work has raised many new questions about what I am to do with the rest of my life. Or should I say how I am to invest my life into significant work.
My plan is based on some painful realities. In the next ten to fifteen years we are going to see a rapid decline in churches across America. Church planting is the answer, but most churches/denominations/missions agencies are not going to be producing leaders fast enough to keep up. My first step is to develop some trade/career that will give me enough income to keep my wife home while we have little ones (none yet and none expected now). The ideal job would be a shift work position that would give me freedom to invest my time off work into significant ministries opportunities.
The plan is simple, invest in a career path that will enable us fully to serve the strengthening, stabilization and establishment of local churches without being a drain on their resources.
