"At the heart of the crisis in Western civilization lies the state of the mind and the spirit of the universities." pg. 25 Charles Malik
"And as you can see most evangelicals simply don't think." pg. 23 Os Guinness further states that he believe it a sin to be Christian and anti-intellectual at the same time, in the spirit of the Great Commandments statement that we must love the Lord our God with all our mind.
"Suffice it to say that the church has failed to define its intellectual responsibilities in compelling terms, to call out from among its own those gifted to discharge this neglected stewardship, and to provide such budding scholars with support for the kind of advanced training that will equip them to do credible work on so exacting a frontier." pg. 21 William Hull
The retreat series, Thinking 4 Change, was developed in the spirit of what I believe Mark Noll is addressing in his book. I have a general concern that many people are swept up in an anti-intellectual perspective and are quite content. And I would not remove my own laziness from this accusation. Taylor Mali, a slam poet from NYC, has a great video that relates to these ideas.
