Rough Draft of My Personal Purpose

Individual Purpose: (risk having bad character will cause listeners to turn away)
If I am ever to achieve the purpose God has given me I must have and develop character. Further I need to develop my gifts in teaching, preaching and music. Asking questions that challenge the norm, for the purpose of change not merely critique. Learning through well researched rich discussions. Reading good books and original sources. Preparing to teach. Like to view things from the big picture. Enjoy the pursuit of holistic thinking and strategy. I crave the community that comes with leadership commitment. Taking excellent resources and making them work in real life. Developing excellence in my craft (preparation & presentation). Utilizing and developing a network. Clarifying truth, especially when it concerns mission, culture, and the church.

Family Purpose: (risk having a family where romance is dead)
I must actively and sacrificially love my wife. Learning to romance my wife at this stage is critical. I also am to provide loving sacrificial spiritual leadership for my wife. The provision of basic life necessities (income, home, insurance, etc.) is my responsibility. As a father it will be my shared but primary responsibility to shepherd, train and instruct my children in a context of love and authenticity. I want to use my home as a center for mission through hospitality and service.

Community Purpose: (risk pursuit of calling outside of church context)
In order to achieve our family purpose we must share life in within the family of families. We have to develop a sense of identity within the church and find our missional identity through the church. I must come to an understanding of my gifts and steward them in our church. Each time we gather together I must be focused on serving the needs of others. I my life outside the church community we must be committed to good deeds, being constantly aware of opportunities to help those in need.

Global Purpose: (risk do nothing)
I am a part of a larger community then the one I live in now. I see my global responsibility unfolding in these key areas: financial, theological, ecclesiastical, educational and moral. In that regard I must make needs know and develop strategic partnerships that leverage experience. Understanding differing world views/language will help me communicate across cultural boundaries.

Unique Life Purpose:
There is no greater purpose for me then to know Christ and participate in His mission. I must love Christ from my heart by pursuing Him above all earthly desires so that it effectively changes my character and purpose. In my family this means establishing my marriage and family firmly in the household order of Christ (Role, Romance, Responsibility, Reconciliation). I must be an active participating member in my church community using my gifts of teaching/preaching to serve the community. Personally I must further develop my gifts in teaching & leadership by finishing BILD courses, pursue my desire to be on a church planting team, helping Bekah become all that she can be, developing bible curriculum at Logos Academy
